I signed a 2 year contract to live and teach in Prague, unfortunately due to a callous Czech Embassy employee in Abu Dhabi, my husband’s visa was refused. Tons of money was spent relocating, and throughout the 3 months I spent there, I was unimaginably stressed out, add to that, I was fully pregnant the whole time; I have mixed feelings about Prague. I loved the city to be honest, living there in many ways was a breeze and so, so gorgeous but for obvious reasons I feel negatively towards the system. While I was disappointed that my time there was cut short and my husband was not able to see the city, I know in my heart that we would have been happy to leave after 2 years. The Czech Republic’s exclusion of foreigners, especially different colour foreigners, would never have allowed us to feel at ease there.
Regardless, I feel fortunate that I was able to live in the city for a few months and do a little vampire hunting with my dear friend and partner in shenanigans, Andrea. If you have read a few of my blog posts, you’ll know Andrea from such tales as No One Wears Panties in Kenya, The Puppy Closet and Other Adventures in Malawi, The Undercover Unicorn in Nepal, and many more.
I have not had a chance to write about my time in Prague; moving to Canada, having a baby, dealing with Immigration here, and going back to work with an infant, leaves me very little time for writing. But if you need some practical advice about visiting or moving to the city, feel free to send me a message.
